25 Random Things about Me
So, this is going around Facebook and since I am trying to make it the entire night without TV, I decided to do it. Thought I’d post it here to for your reading pleasure
1. I picked the gym I belong to because it has a pool, but even after buying goggles; I have yet to swim in it.
2. I miss having a piano in my house.
3. I have written an outline and a first chapter to a book I’ll probably never finish.
4. I bought my house because it was move-in ready and didn’t need anything done to it, but then I broke my light switch and had to replace it. Doing this myself made me feel really good. I also helped when my friend hung my chandelier (kind of) so I’m surprisingly good at electrical work now, well at least lighting.
5. There is not a single room in my house without a clock in it and they all roughly have the correct time.
6. I hate any kind of light in my room when I’m sleeping, so I cover up my alarm clock with an airline eye mask, which is funny because it would be darker if I just wore the eye mask, but they are really uncomfortable.
7. Oddly, I really like the red-eye flight back from the west coast and can sleep better on the flight than if I take an earlier flight and get home really late the night before instead of the next morning.
8. Between the ages of 15 and 22, I had 15 jobs, the shortest of which lasted for one hour.
9. Even after having all these jobs during high school and college, all of which paid above minimum wage and none of which were needed for school expenses, I still graduated with nothing saved except the money I got for graduation presents – which I spent partly on a new TV, a DVD player and the first 4 seasons of Sex & the City since I never had HBO.
10. The first real job I inquired about was in public affairs for the CIA, but at the time and maybe still now, they only hired people who had been field agents – which is not something I would ever be capable of due to my tendency to accidentally not keep secrets. It took about 6 months for my letter to actually get to the correct person, but he did write me back and explain that for security reasons the mail is really slow. At least I guess I passed whatever tests they did on my background or whatever, right?
11. The reason I wanted this job was because when someone asked me, “If you could be the best and know everything about one thing in the world what would it be?” I answered that I thought it would be cool to know everything about espionage. This answer surprised me so I thought I should look into it more.
12. I’ve been at the same job since I graduated from college and I love it, even though it’s not the CIA.
13. My first trip to Europe was with my mom and sister, and it was the best thing I have ever spent money on. The three times since with my sister rank a close second.
14. I love to travel and made my first trip by myself last fall through New England.
15. I don’t like it when people ask if I am a better cook or baker, because I think I do both equally well. However, I have no ability to make anything off the cuff. I definitely need a recipe.
16. I only have one major regret about how I handled something in the past – it was when I was a freshman in high school, and he was right.
17. One of my favorite classes in college was my European history class. One of my least favorite was the Fables and Fantasies class I took to meet my last English credit.
18. I got a Bachelor’s of Art degree instead of a Bachelor’s of Science degree because I tested into French 3 so I got 10 free credit hours for French 1 and 2. I also wanted to take the easy way through math and science, even though I took higher levels of both during high school than I did in college. For the record the sciences I took were Biology (all simulated on a computer), Geology and Natural Disasters.
19. I write a blog and like to see what search terms people typed in that led them to it.
20. When I moved into my house I bought my furniture from Ethan Allen because the sales woman came to my house with samples of all the different finishes and helped me match it to what I already had. This is probably as close to personal shopping as I will ever get, and I loved it.
21. My hair is a little longer than normal right now because after five years with Leah, she moved to a salon an hour away and I hate finding new people to cut my hair.
22. I really don’t like that my sister lives three time zones away.
23. In my entire life, there has only been one movie I walked out of and one book I started and never finished (not counting the Bible). They were both extremely bad…
24. The first time I remember getting in trouble was when I was 6 and living in Wyoming. It was for riding my bike past the stoplight that was my boundary. I got caught because I accidentally told on myself by saying something along the lines of, “we saw that when we rode our bikes to the Y” I lost my bike privileges for the rest of the summer.
25. If I am up really late an sleep deprived, I tend to be really hyper and silly, but most people never see this side of me.
(Sorry it’s a little long. Number 26 would be that I tend to ramble on and on and on…)
It doesn’t happen very often,
but occasionally I can be bothered to cook a real meal. Tonight I made Dr. Phil’s oven-fried chicken recipe and it was delicious
It was also nice and relaxing after the long week I’ve had, and it’s only Wednesday. Our company laid off about 12% of employees across the country yesterday so the last few days have been pretty morbid. Luckily I was not one of them, but we did lose 3 people out of our office. It came as kind of a shock since when they did a few lay offs in November they said that would be it, but then we had some big clients cut back their budgets a ton at the beginning of the year so we had to follow suit. Some people that got laid off had been with the company for 10+ years. I was thinking I was safe at 5+ years, but apparently that is not necessarily the case. They said this should be it for cutbacks in the fore see able future. Let’s hope this time the statement sticks.
Besides cooking supper, I also caught up on some laundry tonight and went to the grocery store. It’s amazing what you can get done when you don’t turn on the TV when you get home. I’m making a conscious decision not to get sucked into Lost after last week so…
How brunch lasts until 8pm…
First, you can’t have any other plans. Next you need to accept the invitation to join your friends for brunch. Third, when you are done at the restaurant you need to round up all the liqour you can find on a Sunday. Finally, you stay at your friends place and sit around a fire drinking until it’s time to eat again. Then you order pizza, eat and go home. There’s not much that can beat a Sunday Funday
Today was a good day…
So I was a little sleepy today at work, so instead of being there really late to get all my stuff done, I decided to let my assistant do half of it
and I do mean “let” her do it. It is a good learning experience… Ok, really I just wanted it to be done so I could cross everything off my to-do list, and technically this was something that a lot of assistants do anyways, I just usually like to do it myself.
Since I got to leave right on time tonight, I came home and promptly took an hour and a half nap – which probably wasn’t my smartest idea since now it’s almost midnight and I’m not tired at all.
After my nap, I went over to Mentally::Rehearsed’s place to watch LOST. I’ve never watched this show, but now it is easy to see how everyone is so hooked. It’s great. I think I’m going to have to try not to watch it anymore though. I have enough TV shows on my DVR that I really don’t need to add a new one. Next thing you know, I’m going to start watching American Idol as well…
This is Awesome!
I totally want one of these keyboards. I wonder how much I would have to bribe my IS department to commission one for me when we get our new Macs at work…

The Internet is being uncooperative this morning
I’m totally loving a song on Jon Black’s new CD, Goodbye Golden Age, called “Declaration” I was going to link to the song, but then I realized it’s not on his myspace page or his band web site (which is weird because he has all the other songs from the CD on his web site) Anyways, I was thinking I’d maybe be able to find the lyrics and just copy and paste them for you guys, but that was a dead end as well. Technically it’s not really a problem with the Internet – I just hate not being able to find what I want. Since I don’t have the time or patience to listen and transcripe the song for you, you’ll just have to take my word that it is awesome. The whole CD’s pretty good too, so if you like his music, then you should buy it…
Why I love my job…
Here are a couple email exchanges I had with one of my favorite reps today.
Me: Hi B, Will you please email me the contract for xxx that matchs the revision I sent last week.
B: Sending Today
matches
matchs?
Me: Leave me a lone. I’ev got alot on my plat
B: Ha ha
Me: I’m glad you appreciate my humor. Some people don’t. I’m not really sure what’s wrong with them.
B: I was laughing at you for being so busy, I thought your grammar was fine… ha ha ha
Then from a little later in the afternoon…
Me: I just sent both. Have you seen video of the plane crash in NY?
B: Watching it now, I always thought the floating cushions were a joke, figured if a plane hits water it is going to break apart…this gives me some hope!
Me: It probably depends on how fast the plane is going when it hits the water, but at least now you know it’s possible to survive.
B: I still always make sure I have on clean socks and underwear…just in case I don’t make it.
Me:
This might be the first email I’ve gotten in my 5+ years here that has the the word “underwear” in it…
B: Now you have two since you replied..ha ha…delete
It’s like wearing ice.
I really need to start bringing my gym bag inside with me in the morning instead of leaving it in my trunk. Brrrrrrr…..
I thought today was going better…
And then I looked in a mirror and realized I never put makeup on today. I normally make sure to wear at least powder and mascara to work (even though it’s a bunch of women) because I don’t like my skin without a little bit of makeup on it. Anyways, I wouldn’t necessarily care if I didn’t have makeup on normally.
HOWEVER – today an old crush brought me breakfast (well not me technically, but our whole office) and I look like crap. For those of you who know the story, this is the crush that is part of one of my most embarrassing moments ever (this sounds like it could be dirty, but it’s not – I just really really stuck my foot in my mouth) and he is still really hot and I’m really mad that I wasn’t wearing makeup…
Here’s hoping things turn around this afternoon.
(On top of everything else, one of my programs I need for work isn’t working so I have to keep closing and restarting, etc. This also explains why I have time to keep posting entries…)
I’m not a nurse…
And that is a really good thing, because I apparently have no idea how you are really supposed to handle it if someone’s ear drum bursts. Here is what I dreamt about last night.
So me, Jlaw, MF and my crush were camping (picture maybe an Africa field) and then all of sudden something was wrong and we had to go find this person that I don’t know (but I did in the dream) So we are working our way through a jungle (I know it’s weird) and then we parted some long grass and all of a sudden C-MFFW is there she is yelling, “he’s over here” so we all run over and here is the guy we were looking for. Apparently his eardrum had burst and I said, “geez that sucks, if only he had know to lean forward (like you’re about to faint) and then his ear drum would have been fine” and everyone agreed – WTF?
Anyways, we decide we need to get him back to camp so we go back, but then when we get back, it’s not a camp anymore it’s a house and we are all going inside, but this part is weird too. There is a huge screened in porch and my crush goes inside it, but then the rest of us (MF, JLaw, C-MFFW and me) are still outside dealing with the guys eardrum and then I’m disappointed because my crush didn’t wait for us to go inside. Blah blah blah, we go inside and I realize that my crush was waiting for us just on the porch instead of helping with the eardrum guy, who has now disappeared.
When we all go inside, MF’s boyfriend had made us lunch (I guess because he likes to cook) and we all start eating and just hanging out like nothing just happened – mind you we were camping and taking care of an injured person.
Then all of a sudden I walk into the living room and I’m at work and in my dream I start negotiating rates with my reps (because apparently I don’t get enough of this when I’m awake) My alarm on my cell phone went off during this part of my dream and I thought it was someone calling and got really confused and started talking into my phone (for real) because I thought it was about work…
Needless to say, this confusion probably had a lot to do with my disorientation this morning (see previous post)
