Challenge Accepted!

February 26, 2009 at 11:20 pm (Random Thoughts)

Blondie at A Blondie Moment tagged me in this little challenge thingy and I accept. The premise:

Your ship has sunk. You have, of course, been stranded on a deserted island. You have salvaged a copy of the King James Version of the Bible and a copy of the complete works of Shakespeare. Nothing else. The very next day you find one of those Arabian Lamps in the sand. Of course, you rub it and, of course, a rather grumpy Genie appears. “Let’s get this straight – there is a recession going on. There are restrictions on the three wishes now. I don’t do water or air transport now so no boats, planes or magic carpets. As for electronics, forget it. There isn’t the infrastructure on this island. I can let you have one book and I mean one VOLUME, one essential item and one luxury item. Now hurry up and make your choices, I have to get to those five other islands you are going nominate.”

1. No air travel, no water travel, hmmm, I’m no dummy. My one essential item is a bridge built from my island to anywhere there is civilization and an airport.

2. My one luxury item is a Range Rover complete with a chauffeur.

3. My book doesn’t really matter, because I’ll be home to my library in no time :)

Peace Out!

Did I really just miss that?

February 25, 2009 at 11:35 pm (Funny Things) ()

Tonight I went and met a few friends at a bar that does game show trivia on Wednesdays. Tonight we did not participate, but I did know quite a lot of the answers tonight and answered when I could. I was feeling pretty confident about my knowledge level. That is until I came home. I watched Important Things with Demitri Martin on Comedy Central when I got home. If you have not see this show, you must check it out. He is hilarious. Wednesdays 10:30p/9:30p C. Anyways, he did a sketch about mnemonic devices because this weeks important thing was “brains”. His first example was a way to remember the planets – he included Pluto because as he put it he didn’t really think it was fair what they did to Pluto. Anyways, his mnemonic device was hilarious – using state capitals(kind of) to remember the planets – so I was focused on that. Check it out below – and then keep reading to see why I felt like a moron.

Ok, are you ready for it? I apparently totally missed that he left out Saturn. Hopefully you are smarter than I was tonight and noticed this. The following sketch pointed it out to let you know if your brain was working or not. Mine, apparently was not. In my defense I did have three beers tonight and I was LMAO at his choice for the mnemonic device, but come on. Thanks Comedy Central for making me feel like an idiot.

In between a rock and a hard place…

February 25, 2009 at 3:25 pm (Funny Things) ()

So I meant to write this last week, but it just crossed my mind again and I still think it’s pretty funny so keep in mind that this happened last Thursday not earlier today…

A woman in my office is pregnant with her first child. This is a girl that has been here longer than me so I’ve hung out with her a fair many times. In all the times I’ve seen her outside the office (or ocasionally at events in the office) I have never seen her drink a beer. She’s usually drinking wine, liqour or cider – like woodpecker or whatever it is. Anyways, last Thursday some reps brought some beer and snacks to our office. She sent me an email that said, “man I wish I could have one of those beers”

WHAT? This coming from a girl who never drinks beer. How much would it suck to be in that position – the one time in your life when you really want/crave a beer and it’s when you’re pregnant. Knowing my luck when I’m pregnant I will develop a craving for gin or something equally ridiculous like cider.

As if Monday isn’t bad enough already…

February 23, 2009 at 8:51 pm (Happenings) ()

I have not been sleeping very well lately. It’s a little weird because I usually only have problems for a few days at a time, but for the last few weeks, I have woken up at 6am all but one day and not been able to fall back asleep. I haven’t really been that tired in the evenings and have stayed up kind of late reading a new book, so the 6am wake up is starting to kick my butt. Here is a list of things that happened today that were probably helped along by my lack of sleep…

1. At work today I was ready to start cleaning up one my buys I just finished, and I accidentally put the market number for one I am still working on and spent about 30 minutes working on the wrong thing.

2. When I left the office, in the span of 5 minutes, I ran into two doors. First, the motion sensor of our office door did not function properly so when I pushed the handle and walked forward the door remained locked and I smacked my arm and my knee into the door. Next when exiting the parking garage elevator, the doors moved extra slow, so my motion of leaving the elevator was a little too quick and I rammed one of my shoulders into the elevator door. (Slight suspicion here that something out of my control is conspiring against me)

3. And then, I fell off the eliptical at the gym. I was reading Self magazine and came to an article that had a list of small changes you could make to your workout routine. One suggestion was to make a running motion on the elliptical by lifting your feet off the platform about a quarter of an inch on the upswing of the pedals. It suggested increasing the resistance so you won’t fall off, which I did. What it failed to suggest was to stop reading the magazine and attempting to lip sync along with your iPod while attempting this move.

I’m usually not such a spaz and I’m bound to have a few bruises. Is it Tuesday yet?

New Computer Randomness

February 15, 2009 at 9:38 pm (Random Thoughts)

I finally got my new computer all set up and the Internet finally work all the time (hopefully) It was the second time this week Yahoo Answers came in handy. You see, I decided I was going to get a new computer after I did my taxes last Sunday. I am getting a bigger refund than I anticipated, so I thought I’d have a little fun with. I didn’t really need one, but my old one was having some issues with the screen flashing so I thought I’d upgrade before it completely gave out on me. I found the one I wanted at Best Buy, but they were out of it until Wednesday (or so they told me).

Then Tuesday night, the power button on my old computer completely stopped working, which would have been ok if I had already gotten all my files off it, but I hadn’t. So Wednesday I went to Best Buy to get my new one, but alas, they said now they wouldn’t have it until Friday. I took my old computer to the Geek Squad counter and they told me it would be 3-4 weeks and about $100 to fix the power button. I don’t think the guy helping realized what I was asking when I asked if there was anything they could do to just get it to turn on once, so I left disappointed and frustrated.

However, Wednesday night I was able to pop the power button off my computer and use a paperclip and a twist tie to hotwire it and get it to start. This was my first use of Yahoo Answers this week that came in handy. I was able to back everything up and then wait until I got my new one on Friday. Yesterday, I got everything set up on my new computer, but for some reason I was (am) having Internet problems. The wireless kept saying connected, but web pages weren’t loading. So again, I went to Yahoo Answers and found a similar question and answer that hopefully will work. So far tonight, it is working, but we will see I guess.

I never use Yahoo Answers to ask something, but I do find it handy with quite a few things because it seems like no matter what comes up – air conditioning issues, computer issues, internet issues – it seems someone else has been there first.

Besides all the issues and drama involved with getting the computer, I am really liking it so far. It’s smaller, cuter, lighter and a lot faster than my old one.

When a song can be so much more…

February 10, 2009 at 11:39 pm (Random Thoughts) (, )

Tonight my friend shared something with me that really hit home, and it hit so so hard. I was able to keep it together while we were talking, but as soon as I got in my car, I absolutely lost it. Then I turned on my car and the song that came on from my iPod was “Sit With You Awhile” I don’t know if there has ever been a song that has been more in line with what I needed to hear. At that exact moment, I really really needed to be held. While it is very possible that I still won’t get a wink of sleep tonight, at least I was able to stop the uncontrollable sobbing long enough to get home.

When you see a new side to your friends…

February 7, 2009 at 12:29 pm (Random Thoughts) (, )

Last night we had a slumber party/surprise bday celebration. This had to be one of the funniest things I heard all night…

LH: Hey KW, do you want to take a shot.

KW: No thanks, I get crazy when I take shots. That’s why EW left.

Me: Come on, you’re in a safe environment here.

KW: Yeah, but are you sure you’re in a safe environment. I get really crazy. (insert evil laughter here)

When the angel wins

February 5, 2009 at 4:31 pm (Random Thoughts) ()

So the day has almost come to an end and I am in a really good place with my work right now. I have 3 of my big buys done and only one left. While they are in various stages of being cleaned up and turned in, there really isn’t anything I need to do between now and 5. For a minute I was considering getting a beer out of the kitchen and putting it in a styrofoam cup and enjoying my last 30 minutes of the day just a little bit more. But alas, the little voice in my head (that sounds a lot like my dad) talked me out of it, even though I know that no one would have known and it wouldn’t really matter anyways. Sometimes I hate having a conscience.
