Really?

Two of the quickest ways to get me to “hide” you on Facebook:

1. Take a ton of quizzes.

2. Update your status constantly about your pregnancy complete with pictures of your sonograms/baby bumps (this is something you should just share with your significant other and maybe your top 20 friends and family – not the 300 or so people on Facebook)

The quickest way to get me to defriend you:

Taking this quiz, complete with this comment…

untitled

My two biggest concerns with this:

1. Unless God created this quiz it cannot be that accurate.

2. The “this is about right” comment – I don’t really need to know when you are going to shoot for having a baby – again this is information that should be reserved for close friends only.

Having a baby is a wonderful thing and I think it just cheapens it by using Facebook as a way to share it. Start a blog or something and send the links to the grandparents and your close friends. Please do not send it to me unless we have communicated personally in someway within the last few months…

No bullets and other random events of the weekend…

June 29, 2009 at 3:38 pm (Funny Things, Happenings) (, , , )

Thursday night I went to see my friend Nathan play at Vinyl. Nathan puts on an awesome show. It was a great time, minus the diva moment** from the guy that played before him, but at least there’s always something interesting happening at his shows.

Friday I had dinner with my friend KA. It was a nice quiet night, and she may not know it but she told me something I definitely needed to hear.

Saturday I headed to East Atlanta for Corndogorama – here’s a picture with me and my friend JM, who happened to win the 2008 corn dog eating contest. Unfortunately she did not win again this year, but it was still pretty awesome to see her try.

Corndogorama

Sunday after church I headed to my friend’s pool for a going away party for another friend. She’s moving to Chicago so we had to have one last Sunday Funday before she left. We grilled out, we swam and we played flip cup by the side of the pool. I finally made it home around 8:45 – which was the exact same time Mentally::Rehearsed called to see if I was going to Brick Store. It didn’t take much to get me to cave. She accomplished it just by asking twice and telling me she was right by my house so she could pick me up. Living in Dunwoody, it is a rare day that someone is actually by my house and/or willing to pick me up. I showered and got ready and then we left my house about 30 minutes later. I’m glad I went – it was  good time and a nice end to the weekend.

Other events of the weekend – I watched a lot of the Disney channel; I got lost in my neighborhood for a few minutes when I went for a run; I did not finish Catch 22 for book club tonight; and I finally got the answer I was looking for, even though it wasn’t the one I wanted. That God, He just works in mysterious ways.

**The guy that played before Nathan got a little whinny that people in the back were talking so he got off the stage crossed the room and climbed up on the bar and stood up there until it got quiet enough for his liking and then he played his last song. I was actually enjoying his music up until this point, but that was just stupid and kind of annoying…

Morning humor

June 26, 2009 at 8:50 am (Funny Things)

I thought I’d share a few of my favorite jokes with you this morning. I realize they won’t be as funny without my awesome comedic timing (ha – that was my first joke), but if anyone is as grumpy as I am today, maybe they will help.

Here is my favorite short joke

So, this guy walks into a bar… (pause) Yeah, you think he would have ducked.

This one killed my first graders at VBS

What did the zero say to the eight?

Nice belt!

And finally, here is the longest joke I have ever remembered

So, this engineer dies and goes up to heaven to see St. Peter. St. Peter decides that this engineer has not led a good enough life and sends him to hell. Once in hell, the engineer decides that it is a totally unacceptable place to be stuck for eternity. He decides to create air conditioning so it’s not so hot. Then he builds elevators and escalators so people don’t have to just climb and hang out on sharp cliffs. Everyone in hell is loving this, even the Devil.

God decides that this is not acceptable. Hell cannot be someplace that people want to go – it will just mess up everything. He decides to go to the Devil and tell him that he wants the engineer back. The devil says, “Are you crazy? There’s no way I’m giving him up. Have you seen what he’s done to the place? No way!” God replies, “Oh yeah, well I’m going to sue you.”

The Devil replies, “Really, where are you going to find a lawyer”

Hahaha. I really like that one. Both my brother and sister are lawyers, so I have a soft place in my heart for any joke I can make about them :)

Anyways, I need some new material so if you have a go to joke you don’t mind sharing, please leave it in the comments…

Morning Randomness

June 25, 2009 at 9:33 am (Random Thoughts) (, , )

Here are some thoughts that have gone through my head today so far:

1. No matter what time I set my alarm for I will wait until 7:50 to get up.

2. If my neighbor was still sleeping and can hear my alarm, they might hate me (50 minutes of snoozing people) It’s ok though. I don’t know the neighbor I share that wall with.

3. Stop checking twitter while you wait for the shower to warm up or you will see this before breakfast courtesy of Tripp Crosby

4. Did I really just have a dream that I was ice fishing, but only catching tennis shoes?

5. I wonder if my sis really wants to go on a trip to another country this year. I wonder if I could somehow convince her to pay for me to go with her (hint hint)

6. Where the heck are my shoes? (for the record – they were in the laundry room, which was really really odd)

7. I think I’ll stop at 7.

This is what happens when the boss man comes for the first time in 2-3 years…

June 24, 2009 at 10:55 am (Happenings)

Today my office is similar to the aftermath of a high school party. Not the same mess, but the same cleaning frenzy. The owner of my agency is coming to Atlanta tomorrow with the new President of one of our clients. This is a huge deal. In my almost 6 years working here, this will only be the third time he’s been to our Atlanta office and the first time in 3 years. It is also the first time such a high ranking client has come to our Atlanta office. What this means…

Everyone is frantically cleaning up their offices (this doesn’t really affect me because my office is always pretty tidy)

Everyone is pitching in on taking down decorations from happy hours from 2.5 years ago.

The old agency work that is hanging in all the hallways is all being replaced with examples that are a little more recent than 5 years ago.

We’ve had about three meetings about what is going to be going on in our meeting tomorrow.

Everyone has to figure out what to wear tomorrow because jeans and flip flops just aren’t going to cut it.

I promise I’m really 28…

June 23, 2009 at 12:36 pm (Random Thoughts) ()

Last night was the premiere of the third season of “Secret Life of the American Teenager” on ABC Family. I’m probably only one of five 28 year olds who watches this show, but I find it quite enjoyable. I’ve tried to compress my thoughts into a few paragraphs to try and keep this short. Oh and in case there actually is anyone else who watches this show and you haven’t seen last night’s episode you might want to stop reading now.

I was not very happy about where they are leading for this season though. The main girl had her baby at the end of last season so I guess they needed a new plot line to throw in there. Here’s what they picked. One of the girls spent the first season talking about abstinence and waiting until she is married to have sex, but then her boyfriend cheated on her because he couldn’t wait. Blah blah blah – men, geez. Anyways, by the end of the second season she and her boyfriend are back together and she is fighting with her dad because she is no longer wearing her purity ring.

Cue last night’s episode – dad is mad, daughter is mad, dad goes on mission trip, daughter has sex with her boyfriend, dad dies in plane crash. Mother and son/brother come home to tell daughter right after she had sex with boyfriend for the first time, son/brother tells her she killed him, she killed dad. Oh the drama. Anyways in the preview for the season it looks like they are going to have the girl dealing with guilt over killing her dad because she got in a fight with him and then he left and she had sex and he died. WTF? I’m not sure I agree with this message ABC Family is sending with the show – if you have sex before you are married, you will get pregnant or someone will die. Awesome.

Now that I’m older, I guess I would say I’m all for keeping teens from having sex and having babies, but I don’t know if I would go about it in quite this manner. I do however appreciate the cheesy PSA’s at the end for an organization that not only promotes abstinence, but also safe sex practices (Yes I went to the web site – I was curious).

I could go on and on about other things in the episode, but then my little recap might take longer to read than actually watching the show, so I’ll stop here.

My grandpa is one of the funniest people I know

June 22, 2009 at 9:46 am (Funny Things) ()

Yesterday I called up my grandpa to tell him Happy Father’s Day. After chatting for a bit it was time to get off the phone. Like he always does when it’s time to get off the phone, he told me to behave myself. (I’m not really sure who’s been talking to him or what they’ve been telling him I do down here in Atlanta, but he thinks he always needs to remind me to behave) Anyways, my usual response is, “I will. You behave too Grandpa” This time he added a little twist to the end of the converstation…

Grandpa: “Me behave, I’m almost 86 years old, what am I going to do. I don’t think I could misbehave if I wanted too”

Me: “I don’t know Grandpa, that sounds like a pretty good alibi.”

Grandpa: “maybe”

Me (imitating Grandpa): “What do you mean me, I couldn’t have possibly done that. I’m an old man. You have the wrong guy”

Grandpa: “Don’t tell your uncle”

Ha. The old man’s still got it.

It’s too bad really…

Probably the most boring post ever, but I bet you still read it :)

June 17, 2009 at 1:38 pm (Happenings) (, , , )

It’s been a busy few days for me. I have this Friday off from work and it cannot come soon enough. Here’s what I’ve been up to.

Friday – After work my brother and I went to dinner to celebrate his new job that he started this Monday. After dinner I beat him at Trivial Pursuit and then he beat me at Scattegories ( a first for him, but not for me) I realize we might be the only people on the planet that play Scattegories with only two people, but it’s still fun. One funny thing – out of all the states that start with N we both picked North Dakota.

Saturday – I finally caught up on some sleep, ran a few errands and then left my place around 3:45 to head to Lawrenceville for my friend’s cookout. Played some wiffle ball, some Taboo and got a new appreciation for how far she drives to hang out with us usually. After the cookout, Blondie and I met up with a few friends in L5P. Got home way too late.

Sunday – Too tired to make it to church so started my day with some old school 90210 on Soap Net. Tried unsuccessfully for a few hours to get my brother up and at ‘em. Started moving his stuff into his new place around 2, spent 1.5 hours in my least favorite place on Earth (Ikea) and then spent 3 hours putting together a dresser. Had about an hours worth of work I brought home to do over the weekend, ended up doing it at 12m.

Monday – Long day at work followed by kickboxing and then book club at my place. Talked about KW’s adventures at Bonnaroo and the rest of our weekend adventures. Did not talk about Catch 22, because none of us had started it yet. There will always be next time. Started cleaning the upstairs bedroom and bathroom after the girls left and ended up cleaning until 12:30 so then I watched Craig Ferguson.

Tuesday – Longer day at work (probably due to the lack of sleep) complete with 2.5 hour training session about some new software followed by the gym and then small group at my place. Didn’t have our new study books yet, so we just caught up and talked about boys. MB and MF stayed until about 10:30, but instead of going to bed when they left I decided to throw the rest of my brothers stuff in bags/boxes and then finished cleaning upstairs. Again was up way too late.

Today’s agenda – went to the gym over lunch so I can go home and vacuum upstairs and start steam cleaning the carpet (yes I have my own steam cleaner – if you know me well, this probably doesn’t surprise you) in the bathroom and bedroom (yes there is carpet in my guest bathroom and yes I hate it) before heading over to my brother’s new place and helping him put together the book shelf and desk we got Sunday.

As you can tell, I lead quite the exciting life. I’ll have to come up with something good to do Friday with my day off so I have something more interesting to write about…

Not really the answer I was looking for, so…

June 11, 2009 at 9:34 pm (Random Thoughts) (, )

I think I’m going to give God a redo. Let me explain…

Normally I am not one to pray over decisions. Most of the major decisions in my life have occured before I really started getting back into my faith so it was never really an issue. I decided to go to Kansas State for free rather than paying a butt load to TCU. I took my job because I needed one. Luckily both decisions were awesome in the end.

Most of my prayers over the last few years have been for strength to get through this or that, and prays for others. Well I decided I would give the whole “what is your plan for me, God” prayer a chance for one aspect of my life. I won’t go into detail about the decision or the prayer because it is kind of a small superficial decision and for this story they aren’t really important…

Today after work I took a nap because I am still a little worn out from the cold. It was only a 30 minute nap, but it was enough time to have one of the worst dreams ever. Again, the dream itself really isn’t important. What is important is that it was awful and I woke up angry, and worst of all, it could have been the answer to my prayer, but not the one I wanted.

I say “could have” because we really never know for sure until after the fact if at all, if that was really what God is trying to tell us. I also say “could have” because I’d rather prefer it not to be the answer. When I was praying to God to find out what He had in store for me, I was really kind of praying that His Will would line up with mine. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has fallen into this trap.

After I woke up I went for a walk and the whole time I was thinking that there was no way that this dream was God’s answer. Surely, He is not that mean, and that if He was really giving me an answer, he would break it to me more gently – maybe just write it down or something. I also started rationalizing that it was probably just all the cold medicine in my system that made me have this dream or maybe just some weird thought triggered the dream. I don’t really know, but I decided that I cannot accept that the dream was supposed to tell me God’s plan. It was just too awful.

So God, as you’re laughing at me right now, please understand that I have nothing against you – I just think that if you were trying to give me an answer, that you might have to try again and be less subtle and a little more kind. And, if it really was the cold medicine, then well, I’m still waiting on my answer :)
