Another lovely day at the office

October 30, 2009 at 3:36 pm (Funny Things) ()

I love my job for many reasons, not the least of which is the people I work with on a daily basis. Here is the end of a phone call I had today with one of my favorite reps…

B: Going to any parties this weekend?

Me: Yeah, one tonight, but tomorrow night we’re just going out to the bars.

B: Fun, which ones.

Me: Probably just the highlands or something. Hopefully it won’t be as crowded there like spiralween and the like usually are.

B: I used to go to those all the time.

Me: Really, I’m not a fan. All you do is wait in line.

B: Yeah, I guess I only went once and it was a lot of waiting. When was that, I think like ‘98.

Me: Ha, I wasn’t even old enough to drink then.

B: And, we’re done…. (click)

Yep, he hung up on me and all I could do was laugh.

Lists, lists, lists

October 29, 2009 at 11:56 pm (Random Thoughts) ()

I spent entirely too much time today playing with the new list feature on twitter. I am in love.

I think my favorite thing about it that now I can follow a ridiculous amount of feeds without clogging up my main timeline.

I like to keep up with entertainment stuff and now I can in one handy list.

I also made a list for Atlanta so I can keep up with things happening around town.

I also made a list for all things music.

Finally, I made a list for news. Since I only actually watch about 20 minutes of news in the morning, I have been getting a lot of my news from CNN’s twitter feed. I decided to add more of a variety now that I could easily.

Did I say that I’m in love.

I was also added to a list. This may have made my day. Thanks Ronnica :)

Reason 12,354 why I love my family and one reason I don’t…

October 28, 2009 at 3:54 pm (Funny Things) ()

Email From Bro to Me & Sis:
Subject – Might as well be on FAIL blog
http://theduty.tumblr.com/post/226067775/brilliant

From Sis to Me & Bro:
Hahahahaha…awesome!

From Me to Sis:
That’s great. People are stupid!

From Me to Sis & Bro:
That’s great. People are stupid. Sorry “Sis”, I meant to reply all last time.

From Sis to Me & Bro:
People are stupid! (Wow, I can almost hear the insult coming out of her mouth 2477 miles away.)

From Me to Sis & Bro:
Touche!

From Bro to Me & Sis:
I read it at first as:
“People are stupid.  Sorry ‘Sis’ “

From Sis to Me & Bro:
Again, people are stupid!
Is there something weird in the water in Atlanta?!?!

… and the one reason I don’t: This email chain continued into my sister informing me that she is totally stealing my Halloween costume idea. I told her that was lame, but she just doesn’t care.

If you hear me on NPR…

October 27, 2009 at 10:59 pm (Random Thoughts) (, )

please don’t laugh if I sound stupid :)

Tonight KW, EF and I spent another lovely evening with the ATL Collective. Tonight they covered Neil Young’s “Harvest” album and Red Heart the Ticker played a set at the end. It was a lot of fun, and best part – free pumpkin pie.

There was a girl from WABE-FM (I think) interviewing people about the Collective and the artists, etc and she talked to us for a while. She also recorded the show. I think my favorite part was that she was also taking pictures with a disposable camera. That was the pinnacle of public funding right there in front of my own eyes. Anyways, KW laughed through every one of her answers so we’ll see if we make it on the air. Or actually I probably won’t, so if you do hear me – let me know…

My week in TV 10-26-09

October 26, 2009 at 12:06 pm (Random Thoughts) (, )

Ok, so doing this weekly isn’t really going as planned. I think I’ve skipped a couple and this one’s a few days late…

Best Line: Community (I am super excited that NBC picked this up for the full season. I love it)

“No, because I’m not in a commercial for breakfast cereal” – Jeff

Best thing I watched: House

I must admit that half of the reason House was the best thing I watched is because I’m really enjoying seeing Jesse Spencer for more than 3 minutes an episode – and intensely guilty self-torturing Dr. Chase is kind of nice to watch. But, other than that I also really liked this episode. I liked that House kept forcing Chase to see the patient and deal with his fear/guilt. I do not like that Chase is not being honest with Cameron, but I guess maybe this is just leading up to how they are going to write her off the show. I also found it interesting that House thought he was hallucinating again because of Wilson’s whispering, but instead of ignoring it, he actually owned up to it. I also liked this tiny part of the story because I sometimes talk to my parents and well, it can’t be that weird if they’re doing it on TV too.  Right?  Anyways…

Worst Thing I watched: Gossip Girl

I am just not liking Hillary Duff on GG. I like her all right in her movies, etc, but I don’t like this character. And really, Dan Humphrey is going to get Serena and a movie star. I think this is the most unbelievable part of the plot. I can totally buy all the conniving backstapping that goes on in this show because I’ve seen stuff like that before, but I really can’t buy Dan as such a hunk. So, sadly as much as I like this show, this season is off to a rocky start for me.

Worst Surprise: Vampire Diaries

WTF, CW? A repeat – damn it. I was all ready to see Vicki as a “vampire with issues” Your promos teased me so, but they did not do a good enough job of letting me know that the episode wasn’t until this week.

OooOo

October 23, 2009 at 2:59 pm (Random Thoughts)

Things that are not important enough for their own posts, and/or not really important at all…

1. Last night I updated Facebook from my phone. Then threw my phone in my purse without locking it. My blackberry decided to retaliate by posting “OooOo” as my status. I’m a little surprised that by the time I noticed it three hours later that none of my smart ass friends commented about it, especially ablondiemoment. Also, I’m really glad it didn’t record some kind of audio clip and post that because it would have been of me singing loudly in my car.

2. Somehow I changed the font on my gmail page. I don’t know what I did, but I don’t like it and I can’t figure out how to change it back. The worst part – it’s wingdings…*

3. When I was laying in bed last night I thought of the perfect Halloween costume, but alas this morning I am feeling a little bit like Paul on Mad Men last week because I did not write it down and I can’t for the life of me remember what it was…

4. I have five clocks in my office that I have gotten as gifts from stations. It’s kind of random, but I go with it. The last one with a working battery died today. You would think that I would just get rid of them or change the batteries, but I don’t. Instead when they die, I just set them to 5:00 and leave them where they are. This makes me a little happy.

* It’s not really wingdings.

I’m still not entirely sure if I’m awake or if I’m still dreaming…

October 21, 2009 at 2:29 pm (Funny Things, Random Thoughts) (, , , , )

Last night I had one of the strangest dreams ever. That is saying a lot coming from me because I have some pretty weird dreams. I’m going to do my best to lay it out for you.

Ok, here’s the weirdest part of the dream – I was asleep the entire time (remember this), but in my dream, I was sleeping and having other dreams, so it was like a bunch of little dreams within a dream. It went like this. In my dream I was sleeping, but not very well. I kept waking up and each time I woke up in my dream I left one dream and then fell back asleep into another. In my dream it was like I was watching myself sleep and dream and wake up and roll over, sleep and dream, etc. etc.  I only remember a few of the small dreams, but I feel like there were more.

1. In the first dream within a dream that I remember I was Sarah in “Labyrinth” trying to get to Jareth’s castle to save baby Toby, but it was funny because while I was being led around by Hoggle, the whole time I was singing – You remind me of the babe. What babe? The babe with the power. What power? The power of voodoo. Who do? You do? What? Remind me of the babe. (I love this movie, if you have not seen it, you must immediately go and watch it)

2. In another one I was on a swing set of sorts with a friend. I say “of sorts” because the swings weren’t really attached to anything and we were just swinging opposite directions facing each other in the air. He jumped off his swing and disappeared and then I did the same and that was the end of that one.

3. This one was great. Probably about 4 or 5 years ago I had a dream where Sum and I traveled to Germany or somewhere like that and spied on a school for male models. This was like a re-run of that dream, which was pretty funny in itself but the fact that this long after I had the original dream, I had a condensed version, is pretty hysterical.

4. The last one I remember is my favorite. I was with my brother and sister and we were running and then all of a sudden my sister started leap frogging over me and my brother, but we were still running and we were upright so my sister was a super leap frogger. She wasn’t just putting her hands on our shoulders and jumping over us like you might be imagining – she was actually crouching down and leaping from the ground over us and back to the crouched position without ever touching us. We stopped and decided that this deserved some attention so we spent the rest of the dream trying to get my sister some recognition for her amazing leap frog ability. We held a fair and I hate to say it, but we put her on display like a freak show. (sorry sis) It was awesome.

So anyways, this morning when my alarm went off and I hit snooze a few times, I was really confused, because a little part of me still thought this was part of the dream. It wasn’t, and I ended up oversleeping and being a little late to work. Unless of course it is still last night and I’m only dreaming that I’m at work…

Ladies of the Evening

October 20, 2009 at 3:38 pm (Funny Things) ()

That, my friends, is the name I heard a little old lady call her small group today when I was at the gym. She had to be around 80. I couldn’t help but chuckle a little, and then it got better…

She said when they started it about 10 years ago they had to fight with the minister to be able to call it that. I can’t even imagine the conversation that took place. I wish I was there.

Some days you really just can’t begin to imagine the things you’ll learn when you turn your iPod off.

Could also possibly need to get my hearing checked…

October 19, 2009 at 12:20 pm (Happenings, Random Thoughts) (, )

So yesterday,  I decided to go through my checking account and see what I’m spending my money on to see where I could cut back some. Anyways, long story short, this probably wasn’t the best week to do that because I’m pretty sure it’s a little skewed to music expenses last week…

In the last week and a half I have…

* Been to all three venues at the CW Midtown complex.
* Paid $60 for tickets, of which $16 was in fees; $20 in parking; and probably about $40-$50 on drinks + tips.
* Seen 7 different artists/bands, involving approximately 25 musicians.
* Purchased 2 actual CDs, both of which I got Friday (They were both signed, so that was pretty cool) – Nathan Angelo’s “These Ol’ Keys” and Vedera’s “Stages”
* Purchased about $20 of music on iTunes.

So, yeah, I think I found the area that I should cut spending…

I also thought I’d rank the shows for you, just for fun. Although as a disclaimer, I’d like to say that I really enjoyed all of them.

1. Tyrone Wells (Vinyl 10/17): He was really at the top of his game Saturday. It was a really fun show.He didn’t play my favorite song, but he made me die laughing when he sang “Hate Song”.

2. Will Hoge (Loft 10/10): I had never heard him before, but I loved his music.

3. Ryan Horne (Loft 10/10): He seemed to be having more fun on stage than normal, so it was a good show. He actually went on early so I’m glad my friends were on time for once so we didn’t miss him.

4. Vedera (Center Stage 10/16): Kristen May was awesome – vocals, guitar, keys. It’s nice seeing a girl kick butt all around.

5. Mat Kearney (Center Stage 10/16) – I like Mat, I also like not being blinded by spotlights. Since I spent about 1/3 of his show with a spotlight in my eyes, he gets to come in 5th instead of somewhere higher.

6.The Myriad (Vinyl 10/17) – I enjoyed it, but the music itself is a little lower on the list of what I like to listen to. They did however tell a ghost story that lead to one of their songs. Since I do believe in ghosts, and it is October, I though that was neat.

7. Matt Hires (Vinyl 10/17): His music was pretty good, but he didn’t seem very comfortable on stage. Maybe it was a bad night for him, I don’t know, but that’s why he’s last. One of his songs will be on Grey’s Anatomy this week though, so that’s pretty cool for him.

*** Special shout out to my friend KW who came with me to Vinyl even though she had no idea who we were going to see, who was playing at any given moment, or quite possibly, and I might be going on limb with this one, when even looking at this list can’t remember who was who of the three artists we saw.

Gibberish

October 13, 2009 at 10:44 am (Random Thoughts) (, )

* You know the embarrassment you feel when you only realize you’re singing out loud because people are staring at you. Wait, yeah, me neither.

* I hate blue headlights. Are they suppose to be safer or something. They annoy me.

* I can get pretty chatty when I drink wine. This is why working for the CIA would have never worked out – I would be too easy to break. So much for dreams of the young.

* It’s pretty amusing to watch someone tear open and empty five or six K-cups into a regular coffee maker because the fancy machine is broken.

* Sometimes I really hate having to come up with titles for my blog entries, but they look pretty stupid without one.

* Last night I watched Mad Men right before book club and then got in my car and “Syndicated” by Richard Julian came on my iPod. Both involve space in some way. One had a story line about an American company going all over the world, and even to the moon. The other is a good song that goes in the opposite direction.
