And I’m loving it!

My grandpa had the time of his life and said the overall experience was one of the most impressive things he’s ever been a part of. That’s a pretty big statement for an 88-year-old. If you know any WWII veterans who have not done this, I definitely think you should have them look into it and sign up. Just hearing my grandpa talk about it brightened my month.

I’m not really a big The Band Perry fan, but damn if they didn’t hit the nail on the head with this one.

I think this was one of Katie’s favorite song’s in High School. I always knew Katie’s taste in music was suspect, but now we have confirmation.

Your friend Wild Man Willy just didn’t like to really because Idol isn’t on Friday in the p.m. For all intents and purposes he could have watched it that night, but it would have been on dvr which means he could have still gone out with you. I think you were right. You were the only one who wanted to have fun.

I couldn’t resist doing a little shopping for her before I went. Luckily even though at 5 weeks she already has a closet full of clothes to get her through the 1st year, she did not yet have anything for Halloween.

I thought this was a weird thing to say because I had never had a Swedish Fish. In fact I didn’t even know what it was the first time I saw this movie. Amanda Bynes’ character, Daphne’s, response made much more sense to me, “I love you a million red M&M’s” Red is always the best one of anything, and I now know that this is true for Swedish Fish as well.

I was trying to think what I would say. Here are some thoughts…

• I love you a million pairs of shoes.
• I love you a million grains of sand.
• I love you a million Switzerlands.
• I love you a million Jesse Spencers.
• I love you a million Bottlecaps – this one is tricky because I mean the candy but it could also be insulting if someone thought I meant actual bottle caps.
• I love you a million New York Cities.
• I love you a million romantic comedies.
• I love you a million books.
• But to be fair, I also love you a million TV shows.

How about you? What would your million be?

It is about a 26-year-old woman who was taken off a street when she was 19 and held captive by a man, “Old Nick”  in a  modified garden shed. When she was 21 she had a son, Jack. The book begins as Jack turns 5. The book was written before Jaycee Dugard was found, but it is based somewhat on a similar story from Austria that took place a long time ago.

I wasn’t sure I’d be able to read it and there are parts in the first half of the book where I didn’t know if I could handle it. I think it really helps that the entire book is written from the son’s point of view. It kind of lightens the tone.

In the first half of the book they are being held in an 11 x 11 shed that has been turned into a room for them with a TV, bed, table, stove, refrigerator, and sink. The only outside light coming from a skylight. Ma has basically taught Jack that the room is real and everything on TV is fake (or outer space) so he doesn’t really know they are being held against their will. Because he’s getting older though, Jack is starting to piece things together and ask more questions. Then when things start to get bad, she realizes that “Old Nick” has been without work for 6 months, putting him in danger of foreclosure and what that would mean for Ma & Jack. A plan is hatched and they end up escaping.

This is where I stopped for the night, which wasn’t very smart because the intensity of the book made it really hard for me to sleep.

The second half of the book focuses on their life once they are free – how does she adjust to being free after being held captive for 7 years? How does Jack adjust to suddenly learning that everything is real and there are other people, and he had a Grandma and a Grandpa and an Uncle, etc. etc? They start their journey at a psych hospital and then eventually in an assisted living facility. It was much easier to read the second half, but it was still just as fascinating. It makes you realize how much you take for granted – outside, separate bathrooms, haircuts. The list could go on and on.

There has been a lot of talk about Dugard’s memoir lately, but I don’t think I could handle reading it.  Just reading this fiction book was hard to take in at times. I can’t even imagine going through something like this, and honestly don’t know if I would have the strength to survive. Hopefully I’ll never have to find out.

So I did. Loudly. I am 30 years old and I threw a tantrum. At 6 in the morning. And it felt great.

I remember a lot of my dreams when I wake up. While I usually write only about the weird/crazy ones, I also have a lot of mundane dreams that are basically just life but not real.

This dream wasn’t particularly important, but basically it was about something that I have done a really good job at not thinking about in a conscious state and I’m pissed that it came up in my dream.

Sometimes I think I would be better off not remembering my dreams at all. Then I could just wake up completely oblivious and not deal with the “why” of it.

Then on days like today, instead of analyzing every detail of this stupid dream, I could just happily continue to pretend that I’m over it.
