They Are Just Soooo Pretty

I went to New York this weekend with some friends. Rather than bore you with the details of how we saw James Earl Jones, John Larroquette, Eric McCormack, Susan Sarandon, and Candice Bergen, I will share my sadness over not being able to buy something I would have never thought I would care about anyways.

These amazing, gorgeous, beautiful, Tom Ford “Whitney” sunglasses I fell in love with at Henri Bendel:

Never in a million-gazillion years would I have imagined giving a second thought to $400 sunglasses, but dang it if these didn’t give me a third and forth and fifth thought. I don’t think I’ve spent over $30 on a pair of sunglasses ever. And I still want them. Bad. Are you listening Santa?

Thankfully my friends were there to keep me from having to eating Ramen Noodles for the next year.  However, if you are reading this and like spending outrageous amounts of money on other people, I gladly accept gifts :)

My Thirties so far (as reviewed in tweets)

In January 2011, I turned 30, and man was I pumped about it. My twenties as a whole were a rough decade and I was going to take my thirties by storm. I was ready! And then all of a sudden it was January 2012 and I was turning 31…

And I was not happy about it. AT. ALL. A funny thing happened, I believed that taking my thirties by storm meant everything had to happen in one year. I was sad, I was disappointed. Thirty had not been as amazing as I had planned. It’s been a few months and I’ve lightened up some, but I still have dark moments. Moments thinking, what if the next 9 years  are the same and nothing changes and nothing is amazing and then I’m 40. FORTY. OMG. WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE?!?!?!?!

Last night I got a nice dose of perspective as I was randomly scrolling through my old tweets. I guess Thirty wasn’t so bad after all. In fact, it was a pretty great year. I needed this.

“When a server asks, ‘Diet Pepsi okay?’ The proper response is ‘Do I look like a murderer?!’”  @kellyoxford

I Should Have Been More Clear

This week has been an especially busy one for my habit of over-analyzing things. After talking a few things through with friends and being completely whelmed* with stupid possible future outcomes, I have decided…

Next time I pray for a distraction, I need make it clear I mean an uncomplicated one…

*Which, to answer Bianca’s question in 10 Things I Hate About You, you can totally just be.

Sweet Baby Girl

This weekend, I finally got a chance to meet BG & MG’s baby girl. She’s such a darling.

I couldn’t resist doing a little shopping for her before I went. Luckily even though at 5 weeks she already has a closet full of clothes to get her through the 1st year, she did not yet have anything for Halloween.

A Whole New Meaning to Area Codes

So, this weekend was by far the most I have laughed in a long time. I cannot even begin to tell you guys how much fun I had at the beach. I tried to come up with a list as in previous years , but I just couldn’t narrow it all down without a lot of explanations for each item.

So, instead I will tell you my favorite random occurrence of jokes.

AB has a co-worker who once referred to someone wearing a short skirt as showing her “phone number” Well it just so happened that there was an outfit one night worn by someone who will remain nameless* that elicited this same comment from AB.

This in turn caused the rest of us to spend approximately 45 minutes coming up with bad puns/jokes about people’s “phone numbers.” Try it. You will see just how far this will go. From giving or not giving a boy your phone number, to what’s this mean for the *69 function** and everything in between.***

When we had finally exhausted all the jokes we could think of, I entered a completely different conversation and an innocent bystander answered a question about his work phone by saying, “I don’t even know that phone number” which caused me to die laughing. Poor guy, doesn’t even know what he did.

Basically from now until I get bored, you will never be sure if I’m really talking about phone numbers or if I’m talking about someone’s “phone number”. You’ve been warned.

*mainly because I don’t know it.

** Knowing the way my mind works, you may think this one was mine. But it was not. I did however give permission for it to be said when the “author” thought it may be crossing the line and of course I did laugh. A lot.

*** I didn’t mean to do that, but dang if that’s not funny too. See it can go on forever.

Imagine my confusion when I woke up…

The other night I had a dream that was so ridiculous that I knew I had to share it, but also so insane that I’m not sure I can give it justice in writing. I’m going to try.

My dream started with me and my sister as teenagers, being grounded by our parents. But my parents were horrible & had us locked in a bedroom. I had to go to the bathroom and my Dad was not letting me go and then when I finally convinced him, he locked me in there. Anyhoo, while in the bathroom, I found out I was pregnant.

Next thing I know, my sis and I are trying to convince my parents to let us go to AM’s bridal shower. After some convincing we were allowed to go, but only if my mom came to chaperone us to make sure we didn’t get away. At some point I told my sister I was pregnant so she knew. Then when my mom’s back was turned I hugged my sister and told her that I had to escape & I ran away.

The first place I went when I ran away was the High Museum, only it was kind a cross between an art museum and a botanical garden. When I was there, all of a sudden I was with my friend’s dad Mr. S and a bunch of my friends. I was walking with Mr. S and we came across a table of knickknacks and I picked one up and said, “that’s weird, my mom has this same thing” and then I realized all the stuff on the table was my moms. I started to call her and then I remembered that I couldn’t call her because I ran away.

After the table of knickknacks we came across a bunch of tables where you could take samples of candy and what not and fill up a goodie bag. After that we decided it was time to go see the “Sparkly Dew” Exhibit. At this time my friend KA was pushing an empty stroller. KA, a few other friends, Mr. S, and I go down a hall and we come to a T shaped intersection with a sign telling us the “Sparkly Dew” exhibit is straight ahead.

Then I say, “This sign always confuses me when I come here – do they want us to go left or right” We go right. We were wrong, so we turn around. The “sparkly Dew” exhibit is really like a long rectangular pond and all of a sudden Rusty is there and he jumps in the water to chase after another dog. All of a sudden a whale-like creature appears under the dogs and takes off with Rusty and the other dog kind of surfing on it. It goes all the way to the end, turns around, comes back and then blows a stream of water up through a blow-hole. This forces Rusty into the air and he comes careening down into my arms and I catch him, set him down and then we continue…

Next thing I know, we are no longer with Mr. S, it’s just me KA and KW. We need to find a bathroom and KA says she knows of a secret one that won’t be as busy. The secret one is inside a storage room. I go into the bathroom and KA and KW are in the storage room when all of a sudden the empty stroller bursts into flames. I run out of the bathroom, KA spots a fire extinguisher and puts out the fire. But when the fire is gone, we look down and the stroller is now a pillar candle. Then we laugh about how we just used a fire extinguisher to put out a candle.

We exit the storage room.

I woke up.

Thoughts

* My parents were my real parents, but they were nothing like my parents. In the dream they were awful people, but in reality they were pretty cool.
* The only part of this dream that was somewhat based on reality was that AM really is getting married soon. That being said, we don’t keep in touch anymore, so I would not be invited to a shower, nor would I go.
* I did just buy memberships to both the High and the Botanical Gardens, so maybe that’s why they were included, but it wasn’t that day and it’s not like I gave either much thought after making the purchases.
* I like that I said the sign ALWAYS confuses me, like I had been there before.
* Rusty hates water, there is no way he would really jump in the pond. And if he did get thrown up into the air and into my arms we would have both tumbled to the ground because that boy is about 70 pounds of get out of my way.
* I have two friends that are KA. I’ll let you both assume it’s you :)
* In the dream, I remember having an eerie feeling about my friend pushing the empty stroller. It was almost like I was watching a scary movie, but it was my friend. I don’t even want to know the significance of it bursting into flames.

OMG, can you believe it…

I’ve actually found a minute to post on my blog. Technically I should be inputting TV rates right now, but I need a break.

Some random stuff’s been happening lately – mostly great stuff.  Sorry I haven’t been writing as frequently. My life has been mostly work and Rusty so I haven’t had much to say. I’m really going to try to get better. To start, here’s an update.

* I turned 30 this month. I’m okay with it. My 20′s weren’t great as a decade, so I’m thinking my 30′s are going to kick some A. To celebrate I had a real grown up party at a bar and paid for appetizers and everything.  Then I went to Vegas over MLK weekend with my sister to drink all day and see some shows.

* I got a promotion at work, one I’ve been waiting for since 2009. Super pumped about the raise and the “Senior” now in front of my title.

* I’ve had Rusty for 5 months now, which is longer than he was with his foster family so I’m hoping that now  he knows I’m going to keep him forever and ever and ever.

* David Berkeley’s new album, “Some Kind of Cure” that came out this week is Awesome. You should definitely buy it.

* I’m going to the Superbowl! One of my FOX stations invited me, so I’m taking my brother and heading to Dallas next week. It would have been nice if the Falcons or Chiefs made it, but oh well, it should be a blast anyways. There is a party Saturday and pre/post game reception things that we get to go to. I don’t know if stars go to the network stuff or the Superbowl in general, but I’m just going to go ahead and throw this out there. If, by any chance I meet Jesse Spencer at any of these FOX events, I may not come back to Atlanta, because he will definitely fall in love with me & I’ll have to move to LA. Just Saying.

* Last weekend I went out with a couple of friends and KD’s little sis, who is 22. There was another young girl dancing at the bar and she was wearing the UGLIEST outfit I’ve ever seen. I really tried to be sneaky and get a picture but it didn’t work out so I’m going to try to describe it… She was wearing a buttoned-up red plaid flannel shirt with the sleeves rolled up to about mid fore-arm. The shirt itself was ok, but she had it tucked into a white/cream-colored skirt that can only be described as a cross between a tablecloth and a diaper. All of her friends were dressed relatively normal so she really stood out. I asked KD’s little sis if that is what people her age dressed like and she said no, so I don’t think it’s some new trend I don’t know about. It was just hideous and my description probably doesn’t make it sound hideous enough, but it’s all I’ve got.

All right, I better get back to it.

Thursday Thoughts*

- Mad Men started up again on Sunday. I love this show. I think I’m too young to get the whole John & Marcia thing, but I thought it was funny. I wanted to smack Betty. If they keep skipping years though, pretty soon Sally can run off to San Francisco and protest the war. I was really excited about that season of American Dreams with Meg in San Francisco, but alas it never happened. I blame Milo Ventimiglia and Heroes.

- I almost rescued a puppy on Tuesday. I’ve been talking myself into and out of getting a dog for a few years and this 1.5 hour drive to a dog rescue was the furthest I’ve ever gone in the decision process. Unfortunately the labrador mix they advertised was really a pit bull mix who was very dog aggressive and would not be good for me since anyone who can dog sit has their own dogs and I’d love a dog I could take to the dog park down the street. I will however probably get a dog next month when I can take some time off to play with it :)

- We’re pretty busy at work right now working on some annual buys, so I’ve been estimating ratings non-stop all week, which normally isn’t so hard, but since Nielsen has been a little sporadic with the different data streams, it’s a little tough this time. I know most of you reading this are probably like, blah blah blah- I’m sorry. I would explain it, but I’d like you guys to keep reading my blog so I’ll refrain.

- I went to Dallas this weekend to visit my friend J from college. I haven’t seen her since 2007. It was also nice getting to know her husband since the only time I met him was at their wedding. I am horrible about keeping in touch with people. It’s safe to assume that if you don’t live in Atlanta, I will apparently only see you every three years or so.

- In Dallas, I went to my first minor league baseball game. It was pretty cool. I might have to check out the Gwinnett Braves sometime. I’m guessing they are actually closer to me than the Braves stadium. The seats were better, the parking was easier. It also didn’t hurt that their season tickets include soda and hotdogs :)

* albeit a little late since it is almost Friday.
