Weekend Re-do

November 2, 2009 at 9:18 pm (Happenings) (, , )

This weekend was great – partly because it included today…

Friday night, Blondie and I went to a friends Halloween party. I played a pathetic game of beer pong, but it was okay because I somehow managed to convince my partner to drink all the beer, so really I just threw the ping-pong ball in the right direction a few times. The only one I actually made bounced off the competitor’s hand and into the cup.

Since Saturday was so yucky I spent most of it inside until a last-minute shopping spree to help my brother finish his costume. Saturday night, I met up with some friends at B&LH’s house. We watched a little bit of some special on the scariest movie scenes and the beginning of Hellraiser, and finally headed out around midnight. We headed down to L5P for Halloween and listened to a band named The Howlies at Star Bar and then the boys wanted to hit up The Porter for last call. Somewhere along the way we came across a discarded doll in the street and spent our time at The Porter using LH’s plastic knife to kill the baby over and over again.

We left when they kicked us out and then hit up the dance floor at Corner Tavern. They closed down at 3 and we thought the night was over, but lo and behold Star Bar decided to give us the extra hour so we went in there and danced until 4 (or 3 depending on how you look at it). The boys were pretty patient with us girls. By the time I got home it was 5. I’m pretty sure the last time I stayed out that late I was probably 19 or 20. I paid for it yesterday though with a complete lack of motivation to do anything productive. The only time I changed out of my pj’s was when I went to get the last week’s worth of mail, so…

Today I didn’t go to work. I felt like I needed to have a do-over for Sunday, so I spent the day running some errands including finally getting new tennis shoes. Then because it was such a pretty day I decided to take a nice afternoon run since I had some daylight; did some household chores and made spaghetti for dinner. Now I’m just waiting for Gossip Girl to come on. It’s been a nice day. I guess I’ll have to go back to the real world tomorrow…

If you hear me on NPR…

October 27, 2009 at 10:59 pm (Random Thoughts) (, )

please don’t laugh if I sound stupid :)

Tonight KW, EF and I spent another lovely evening with the ATL Collective. Tonight they covered Neil Young’s “Harvest” album and Red Heart the Ticker played a set at the end. It was a lot of fun, and best part – free pumpkin pie.

There was a girl from WABE-FM (I think) interviewing people about the Collective and the artists, etc and she talked to us for a while. She also recorded the show. I think my favorite part was that she was also taking pictures with a disposable camera. That was the pinnacle of public funding right there in front of my own eyes. Anyways, KW laughed through every one of her answers so we’ll see if we make it on the air. Or actually I probably won’t, so if you do hear me – let me know…

I’m still not entirely sure if I’m awake or if I’m still dreaming…

October 21, 2009 at 2:29 pm (Funny Things, Random Thoughts) (, , , , )

Last night I had one of the strangest dreams ever. That is saying a lot coming from me because I have some pretty weird dreams. I’m going to do my best to lay it out for you.

Ok, here’s the weirdest part of the dream – I was asleep the entire time (remember this), but in my dream, I was sleeping and having other dreams, so it was like a bunch of little dreams within a dream. It went like this. In my dream I was sleeping, but not very well. I kept waking up and each time I woke up in my dream I left one dream and then fell back asleep into another. In my dream it was like I was watching myself sleep and dream and wake up and roll over, sleep and dream, etc. etc.  I only remember a few of the small dreams, but I feel like there were more.

1. In the first dream within a dream that I remember I was Sarah in “Labyrinth” trying to get to Jareth’s castle to save baby Toby, but it was funny because while I was being led around by Hoggle, the whole time I was singing – You remind me of the babe. What babe? The babe with the power. What power? The power of voodoo. Who do? You do? What? Remind me of the babe. (I love this movie, if you have not seen it, you must immediately go and watch it)

2. In another one I was on a swing set of sorts with a friend. I say “of sorts” because the swings weren’t really attached to anything and we were just swinging opposite directions facing each other in the air. He jumped off his swing and disappeared and then I did the same and that was the end of that one.

3. This one was great. Probably about 4 or 5 years ago I had a dream where Sum and I traveled to Germany or somewhere like that and spied on a school for male models. This was like a re-run of that dream, which was pretty funny in itself but the fact that this long after I had the original dream, I had a condensed version, is pretty hysterical.

4. The last one I remember is my favorite. I was with my brother and sister and we were running and then all of a sudden my sister started leap frogging over me and my brother, but we were still running and we were upright so my sister was a super leap frogger. She wasn’t just putting her hands on our shoulders and jumping over us like you might be imagining – she was actually crouching down and leaping from the ground over us and back to the crouched position without ever touching us. We stopped and decided that this deserved some attention so we spent the rest of the dream trying to get my sister some recognition for her amazing leap frog ability. We held a fair and I hate to say it, but we put her on display like a freak show. (sorry sis) It was awesome.

So anyways, this morning when my alarm went off and I hit snooze a few times, I was really confused, because a little part of me still thought this was part of the dream. It wasn’t, and I ended up oversleeping and being a little late to work. Unless of course it is still last night and I’m only dreaming that I’m at work…

Flirting expertise

September 12, 2009 at 5:54 pm (Random Thoughts) ()

Last night while out in the highlands, a girl in the restroom started asking my opinion on whether or not a guy was flirting with her. She told me the whole story and asked for my opinion.

This is funny for two reason:

1. I don’t think I’m very good at flirting, and am probably the last person this girl should have asked. I usually have no clue either way. Pretty sure my friends agree because when I told them this story, one of them laughed – not so much about the girl asking, but about her asking me. So um, yeah…

2. Before going out I had almost the exact same conversation with SW asking her advice on on whether something was flirty or not – the only difference was the details. So clearly I am no expert and should not be the person to ask.

In case you’re curious I told the girl yes I thought it sounded like the guy was trying to flirt with her. Not so much because I knew, but I had no desire to ruin a stranger’s night and/or dealing with a crying girl in the restroom.

Things I learned at the Beach – Part 4

September 8, 2009 at 8:14 pm (Random Thoughts) (, , , , )

In case you’ve missed them: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3

1. 15 girls and a few guys to help and still no one will be able to get the outdoor speakers to work – yes, the volume on my speakers is terrible, but at least I had some :)

2. Hot tubs probably work a lot better if the owner of the house tells you there is a charge to heat it beforehand instead of informing you that’s why it won’t work when you call to ask how to work it – Hot Tub Fail!

3. Kathryn makes delicious fish tacos and Samantha makes amazing French toast.

4. It might be possible to play a drinking game based on how many times Beau says totally or chug (this one is courtesy Amy and definitely something we should try next year)

5. No matter how well you think you plan there will have to be a few beer runs throughout the weekend, and oh yeah, why aren’t we drinking mimosas – we need to get stuff for mimosas…

6. Thanks to Elisabeth, I learned that there is such a thing as a dress that requires a DVD because there are about 20 different ways to wear it. Thanks to Summer, she was able to wear it even though she forgot the DVD.

7. I will only wear 1/4 of the clothes I pack but will have to wash them all because everything within a five mile radius of my suitcase will be covered in sand.

8. There are many spellings of Lindsey/Lindsay/Lyndsey and having four of them in one place will get confusing – even if you try numbering them because everybody has a different #1.

9. There are a million ways to get to Grayton Beach, going through Montgomery both ways this year and somehow managed to mix it up some between there and the beach.

10. Alabama has many fun little towns: I don’t remember the name of the town, but the tagline “Front Porch City” was true to its name (except one house, who may or may not get invited to town functions); Seeing a sign that says Welcome to OPP will immediately make me start humming O.P.P and being really sad that out of 3454 songs on my iPod there is not one by Naughty by Nature; some girl named Lisa owns almost a whole town – true story.

Things that should probably just go unsaid

August 19, 2009 at 10:17 am (Random Thoughts) ()

Anonymous SG member 1: It’s true, our small group is the best. They try to start all these small groups based on some model and they always fail, but they never just do what we do.

Anonymous SG member 2: Yeah, but we don’t have a model. What are they going to do just say – Caribou at 7 – be there. It only works for us because we are awesome.

This is what I love most about my small group – we are very humble.

Things on my mind right now

August 14, 2009 at 10:57 am (Random Thoughts) (, )

1. Two guys arguing at Caribou about some business deal. I wish I knew what they were talking about and if and how it might affect the stock market, so I could be an insider and make some mullah…

2. I really hope the bug bombs work and rid my house of the fleas that have moved in. Nothing will drive you more crazy than having fleas in your house.

3. I need to pause and email KW about the ice luge for Elizabeth’s birthday party next weekend. I keep forgetting to do this.

4. Hmm, My Internet is staying connected here, it must be my router at home that makes it go in and out of connectivity.

5. This has been a crazy week, not only did I find fleas in my house, I also rear ended someone Wednesday and my car battery completely died last night when I was running errands on my way home.

6. I’m glad I’m not at work today.

7. Where should I eat lunch?

8. I hope the weather is nice on Sunday for the Brave’s game.

9. Oh man, the arguing guys are leaving – now I’m stuck with no one to eaves drop on.

10.I have not been to this Caribou since the early days when we did our small group here (now we meet at each other’s homes) It reminds of the night I decided to finally get over my fear of bible studies and take the step and accept the 11th or 12th invitation from MF and Kate to join them here on Tuesday nights. Gosh I can’t believe that was over three years ago. Where has the time gone.

Week One

August 7, 2009 at 10:20 am (Happenings) (, , , , , )

It’s Friday and so far I have managed to stick to my no TV during the week and only 4 hours on the weekend. I’m actually a little surprised with myself. I’ve gotten a lot done and had some fun. Although I did not finish Catch 22 so I’m going to have to renew it again. I wonder how many times they let you do that…

Last Friday, EC convinced 12 of us to drive to Douglasville to have some authentic Tacos instead of going to Taqueria del Sol as usual. While it was fun and the food was okay, I don’t think I’ll make that trek again.

Saturday I spent a lot of time working on some stuff around the house and then went to KA’s place for a birthday extravaganza. It was her birthday and we were also celebrating 5 others. We played some corn hole and badminton and I learned I am really bad at corn hole.

Sunday I actually went to my Sunday school class because one of my friends was talking. I haven’t gone in probably over a year, so I don’t really know if I can call it “my” class anymore, but whatever. Other than that and church I didn’t really do much.

Monday after work I went to the annual august party for our industry. It was at the Ainsley Golf Club and the after party was at Whiskey Bar at the W Midtown. I hadn’t been to either place and they were both a lot of fun. The Whiskey Bar has an amazing Blueberry martini. I’m glad I don’t actually pay for my drinks at these things because I’m sure they were two super expensive bluberry martinis.  I didn’t get home until about 2, so I was pretty tired Tuesday, but so were the other 5 people from my office that went to the party so it was a slow day at work.

Tuesday night I had small group so I just hung out with the girls and then went to bed as soon as I got home.

Wednesday night I went through a huge plastic tub of baby/kid clothes my mom kept and that I was too lazy to go through 3 years ago. By going through, I meant that I never actually even opened it again after the I opened it initially and decided that I didn’t want to deal with it. This is one of about three tubs/boxes in my attic that I just took when we cleaned out the house and never did anything with. I’ve just moved them from place to place, so I thought I’d actually see what was in there past the top layer. I cannot believe all of the stuff my mom kept – most of it is going to goodwill or went in the trash. So that’s one thing out of my attic.

Last night, I didn’t really feel like doing anything at home, so I went with KW, LH, and SW to see Yacht Rock at 10 High. We’ve seen them before but not there – I think I’ve only ever been there for improv on Wednesdays so it was interesting seeing a show there. It was a lot of fun, but I am tired today.

When I was driving to work this morning, I was thinking how long it has been since I stayed out until 2am period, let alone twice in one week and on a Monday and Thursday to boot. That’s crazy. Sum and I used to go out on Thursdays every week when we first moved here and we would stay out until 3 or sometimes even 4 when the bars stayed open that late. I don’t know how I ever made it to work on Fridays back then because I really didn’t want to come today.

A weekend in Chucktown

July 27, 2009 at 1:04 pm (Funny Things, Happenings) (, , , , , )

The highlight of the weekend was definitely getting to see the bride and groom getting hitched, but here are some other great memories from my weekend in Charleston…

* On the drive down there, ECW was giving me a hard time because I said I probably wouldn’t get married in a church because it would be too formal for what I want, but then later in the trip was talking about the Chris Brown song church entrance video and then gave me a hard time because I said that it was stupid.

Let’s get things straight here – it’s kind of not ok if I don’t get married in a church, but if I do, it is ok if I do something completely and utterly ridiculous like this. For the record, if I do end up getting married in a church, I will not be entering to a Chris Brown song. I don’t think it would ever be an issue though because I’m pretty sure Peachtree’s rules do not allow for this sort of thing…

* This picture of MF and her boyfriend EC Friday night. When first posing for the picture, he was being silly and ignoring her with his pose so then when he tried to get serious and kiss her cheek she timed it perfectly with the picture to dodge his kiss. I was greatly amused…

IMG00023

* Everything KA and JLaw said on Saturday night.

* Sitting in a bar with everyone after the reception and making videos including one of all of us girls doing our window washing dance, but while sitting at the table because our feet were killing us. If I ever get a copy of this video I might add it below, but for now, just imagine the most awesome dance ever done by the coolest girls ever.

* After having the rickshaw driver stop for us to get pizza on the way home from the bar, JLaw, her husband SLaw and I sat in the hotel bar and ate our slices so I wouldn’t have to share mine with my roommates. It was closed, but we were thirsty so JLaw went behind the bar to get some water from the fountain. SLaw kept trying to get her to see if the beer taps worked, but we stuck with water. While refilling our waters I made some comment about being surprised no ones come over to see what we are doing since we are probably being kind of loud and going behind the bar. JLaw then says, “Whatever, we are the most honest people ever. I mean we’re only stealing water”

* In the morning while dividing up the hotel bar this exchange took place. For as tired as KA was Sunday morning, this was very funny.

Me: Ok, so it’s going to be $120 each, well I guess if you want to get technical, it would be $121.10 each. I can cover the extra two cents.

KA: Good, then I don’t have to give you mine.

Playing Dress Up

July 13, 2009 at 1:18 pm (Random Thoughts) (, )

Some of my friends are having a housewarming party next weekend. I glanced at the evite, checked my calendar, RSVP’d and then went on to the next email. I did not realize it was a theme party until another friend asked me last night what I was going to wear. At which point, I still didn’t get it and said something like, “I don’t know, maybe what I have on right now. Why?”

Anyways, so the theme is “frat-tastic” I think this is a very open ended theme. Last night it led to a discussion about how my Kansas State definition of frat-tastic will be different from a Georgia definition, etc. etc. (Not only a different definition, but I’d also spell it differently – I will now spell it like I would instead of how the invitation reads – fratastic.)

Boys have it pretty easy for this one, especially since most of the guys that will be at the party won’t really need to change their normal outfits at all. I guess they could go with some seersucker or those ugly shorts/pants that have little emblems all over them (that is such a southern thing that I just don’t get and definitely don’t know the correct term for) They can throw some croakies on their sunglasses and keep them around their necks all night, and they are good to go. However this does not help me.

The invitation just says to wear a sundress, which is all fine and good, but not really very “fratastic” if you ask me. Most of our school year was when it is colder so I would say the one of the main styles of my college days was for girls to wear black pants and some kind of top. This won’t work for the party though because it is the middle of July in Georgia and because the only black pants I own now are work slacks. Even picturing football games and tailgating doesn’t work for me because girls dress up down here and in Kansas we just wore shorts and a K-State t-shirt or later in the season – jeans, a sweatshirt, coat, hat, and gloves.

Anyways, I know I’m putting too much thought into this. I could just dig up an old t-shirt and my lavaliere, but then I’ll start trying to figure out what the statute of limitations is on not drinking in your letters.

Side notes
1. I am not a big fan of dressing up and putting this much thought into it.
2. Exactly how old is too old to dress up like you’re in college? 28? Can I use that as an excuse to just wear whatever?
